Nelly Furtado is a Canadian singer-songwriter born in Victoria, British Columbia, to Portuguese immigrant parents. She rose to fame in 2000 with her debut album Whoa, Nelly!, which featured the hit single "I'm Like a Bird" and earned her a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Her sound blends pop, folk, world music, and later hip-hop and R&B influences, showcased on albums like Folklore and Loose.
