Bob Marley & The Wailers

Bob Marley & The Wailers formed in Kingston, Jamaica in 1963 as The Wailers with Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. They pioneered reggae internationally, releasing landmark albums Catch a Fire (1973) and Exodus (1977) on Island Records. After Tosh and Wailer departed, Marley continued with a rotating lineup including the Barrett brothers and the I Threes. Their sound fused roots reggae, ska and rocksteady with socially conscious lyrics. Key releases include Natty Dread, Rastaman Vibration and the posthumous Legend compilation. Marley died in 1981; the group has continued under family stewardship.
