About
Alexander Scriabin was a Russian composer and pianist born in Moscow in 1872. He began as a Romantic composer influenced by Chopin and later developed a highly original harmonic language based on his own mystic chord. His career progressed from early piano miniatures and orchestral tone poems to large-scale symphonic works with philosophical and theosophical themes. Notable compositions include the symphonic poems Prometheus: The Poem of Fire and The Poem of Ecstasy, as well as ten piano sonatas that chart his stylistic evolution. Scriabin performed extensively across Europe and Russia before his early death in 1915 at age 43.
