The Police are a British rock band formed in London in 1977 by Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers. They rose to global fame in the early 1980s with a distinctive fusion of rock, reggae and new wave. Their 1983 album Synchronicity and single "Every Breath You Take" became international smashes. The group disbanded in 1986 after five studio albums but reunited for a world tour in 2007-2008. They are known for their tight musicianship and Sting's distinctive vocals and songwriting.
