About
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer of the Romantic era, born in 1840 in Votkinsk. He studied at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and became one of the most prominent figures in classical music. His works include the ballets Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker, as well as symphonies, operas, and concertos that remain central to the repertoire. Tchaikovsky's music blends Russian folk elements with Western European forms, characterized by rich orchestration and emotional depth. He maintained a close relationship with patron Nadezhda von Meck and achieved international acclaim during his lifetime. His final symphony, the Pathétique, premiered shortly before his death in 1893.
