Ivor Bolton is a British conductor and harpsichordist known for his work in historically informed performance and opera. Born in 1958, he studied at Cambridge and the Royal College of Music before establishing himself as a leading figure in Baroque and Classical repertoire. He has served as music director of the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, and has conducted at major houses including Glyndebourne, Covent Garden, and the Bavarian State Opera. Bolton is particularly noted for his interpretations of Handel, Mozart, and Monteverdi, often leading period-instrument ensembles. His recordings appear on labels such as Deutsche Grammophon and Sony Classical.
