Shelly Manne

Shelly Manne was an American jazz drummer, composer, and bandleader born in New York City in 1920 and raised in Los Angeles. He became a central figure in the West Coast jazz scene of the 1950s, known for his crisp, melodic drumming and work with Shorty Rogers, Jimmy Giuffre, and the Lighthouse All-Stars. Manne led his own quintet and recorded landmark albums such as "The West Coast Sound" and the "My Fair Lady" jazz interpretation. He also composed film and television scores and performed extensively as a session musician. His style bridged bebop and cool jazz, and he remained active until his death in 1984.
