About
The Dave Brubeck Quartet was a pioneering American jazz ensemble formed in 1951 by pianist Dave Brubeck. The classic lineup featured alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, bassist Eugene Wright, and drummer Joe Morello. The group became renowned for its sophisticated use of unusual time signatures, most famously 5/4 on the 1959 album Time Out, which included the enduring standard "Take Five." They released numerous acclaimed recordings on Columbia Records and performed extensively worldwide, influencing generations of jazz musicians with their blend of cool jazz, classical influences, and rhythmic innovation.
