About
Antônio Carlos Jobim was a Brazilian pianist, guitarist, singer and composer born in Rio de Janeiro in 1927. He became the central figure of bossa nova, co-writing the genre-defining “The Girl from Ipanema” and “Desafinado.” His sophisticated harmonies and gentle melodies shaped Brazilian popular music and influenced jazz worldwide. Jobim recorded landmark albums such as Getz/Gilberto with Stan Getz and João Gilberto, and released solo works including Wave and Stone Flower. He collaborated with Vinicius de Moraes, Astrud Gilberto and Frank Sinatra, and his songs remain standards in jazz and pop repertoires. Jobim died in New York in 1994.
