About
Glenn Gould was a Canadian classical pianist born in Toronto in 1932. He rose to international prominence with his 1955 recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations, which became one of the best-selling classical albums of its time. Gould was known for his distinctive interpretations, idiosyncratic technique, and preference for studio recording over live performance. He retired from concertizing in 1964 to focus exclusively on recordings and broadcasting. His later work included explorations of electronic media and collaborations with the CBC. Gould died in 1982 at age 50.
