About
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark formed in Wirral, England in 1978 by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys. They became key figures in the British synthpop and new wave scenes, achieving mainstream success with hits such as "Enola Gay" and "If You Leave." The group released ten studio albums through the 1980s and 1990s, blending electronic experimentation with melodic pop songwriting. After a split in 1989, McCluskey continued under the OMD name while Humphreys formed The Listening Pool. The classic lineup reunited in 2006 and has since issued new material including the albums History of Modern and The Punishment of Luxury. Their sound is characterized by vintage synthesizers, driving basslines, and introspective lyrics.
