About
Oscar Castro-Neves was a Brazilian guitarist, arranger, and composer born in Rio de Janeiro in 1943. A key figure in the bossa nova movement, he performed on landmark recordings including Stan Getz’s Jazz Samba and worked extensively with Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66. His clean, melodic guitar style and sophisticated arranging helped define the international sound of Brazilian jazz and pop during the 1960s and 1970s. He later became a prolific session musician and producer in Los Angeles, contributing to film scores and recordings by artists such as Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson. Castro-Neves remained active into the 2000s, releasing solo albums and collaborating with contemporary Brazilian and jazz musicians until his death in 2013.
