About
Yo-Yo Ma is a French-born American cellist of Chinese descent, widely regarded as one of the greatest living classical musicians. Born in Paris in 1955 to Chinese parents, he moved to the United States at age seven and studied at Juilliard and Harvard. Ma rose to prominence with his virtuosic technique and wide-ranging repertoire that spans Baroque, Romantic, contemporary classical, and cross-cultural collaborations. He founded the Silk Road Ensemble to explore musical traditions from around the world and has recorded over 100 albums, winning 19 Grammy Awards. Notable projects include his Bach cello suites recordings and the soundtrack for the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Ma has performed with artists across genres including Sting, James Taylor, and the Silk Road Ensemble.
