About
Gerald Moore was an English classical pianist and accompanist, born in Watford in 1899 and active until his death in 1987. He became one of the most celebrated piano accompanists of the 20th century, working with leading singers such as Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Kathleen Ferrier, and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Moore performed extensively in recital and on recordings, and his sensitive, supportive playing helped define the modern art-song accompaniment. He also taught masterclasses and authored influential books on accompanying, including 'The Unashamed Accompanist' and 'Am I Too Loud?'. His recordings for EMI and other labels remain benchmarks for lieder and art-song performance.
