Pantera

Pantera is an American groove metal band formed in 1981 in Arlington, Texas. Originally a glam metal act, they achieved mainstream success after vocalist Phil Anselmo joined in 1986, shifting to a heavier sound. Their breakthrough albums Cowboys from Hell (1990) and Vulgar Display of Power (1992) established them as pioneers of groove metal. The band released several platinum-certified albums including Far Beyond Driven, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Pantera disbanded in 2003 following internal tensions, with guitarists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul later forming Damageplan. Dimebag was killed on stage in 2004. The surviving members reunited in 2022 for touring with vocalists Zakk Wylde and Phil Anselmo. Their sound blends heavy riffs, syncopated grooves, and thrash influences.
