Rafael Orozco

Rafael Orozco is a Spanish classical pianist born in Córdoba in 1946. He studied at the Madrid Royal Conservatory and later in Paris with Vlado Perlemuter. Orozco won first prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 1966 and went on to perform with major orchestras across Europe and the Americas. He recorded extensively for labels including EMI and Decca, focusing on Romantic repertoire such as Chopin, Schumann and Rachmaninoff. Orozco also taught at the Córdoba Conservatory and served on international competition juries. His career was cut short by illness; he died in 1996 at age 50.
