Lamajamal

Lamajamal is a world music ensemble based in the San Francisco Bay Area, active since the early 2000s. The group blends traditional Middle Eastern and North African rhythms with jazz, funk, and rock, featuring instruments such as oud, qanun, and darbuka alongside electric bass and drums. They are known for high-energy live performances that fuse Arabic maqam scales with Western improvisation. Lamajamal has released several independent albums and maintains a catalog through Intercultural Music. Their music reflects the multicultural makeup of the Bay Area and draws on the heritage of its members from various Middle Eastern and Mediterranean backgrounds.
