Paul Le Flem was a French composer and music critic born in 1881 in Radon, Orne. He studied at the Schola Cantorum under Vincent d’Indy and later taught there, counting Olivier Messiaen among his pupils. His output spans orchestral, choral and chamber works rooted in French post-Romanticism with modal and folk influences; notable pieces include the symphonic poems “En mer” and “La ronde des fées,” the opera “La magicienne,” and numerous choral settings. He also served as music critic for Comoedia and wrote extensively on contemporary music.
