Thundercat

Stephen Bruner, known professionally as Thundercat, is an American bassist, singer-songwriter and producer from Los Angeles. He first gained recognition as the bassist for the influential jazz-fusion group Suicidal Tendencies and later for the experimental hip-hop duo Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder collective. His solo work fuses funk, jazz, R&B and electronic production into a distinctive, virtuosic sound that has earned critical acclaim and a Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album. Notable releases include the albums Drunk (2017) and It Is What It Is (2020), the latter featuring collaborations with artists such as Childish Gambino, Steve Arrington and Louis Cole. Thundercat has also contributed bass and vocals to projects by Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller and Kamasi Washington, cementing his reputation as one of contemporary music’s most versatile and in-demand bassists.
