38 Special

38 Special is an American southern rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1974 by Donnie Van Zant, younger brother of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Ronnie Van Zant. The group rose to prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s with a string of arena-rock hits that blended bluesy southern rock with AOR polish. Signature singles include “Hold On Loosely,” “Caught Up in You,” and “If I’d Been the One,” all of which reached the Billboard Top 10. The band has released more than a dozen studio albums and continues to tour, maintaining a loyal following in the classic-rock circuit. Their sound is characterized by twin-guitar interplay, driving rhythms, and Donnie Van Zant’s gritty vocals.
