Sir Philip Ledger (1937–2012) was an English organist, conductor, composer and academic born in Bexhill-on-Sea. He served as Director of Music at King’s College, Cambridge (1974–1982) and later as Principal of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Ledger was renowned for his work in choral and early music, editing major anthologies and composing anthems, carols and organ pieces that remain staples of the Anglican repertoire. He conducted the Bach Choir and recorded extensively for EMI and other labels, collaborating with leading British choirs and soloists.
